The Head of the River Race is one of the world\’s biggest continuous rowing events and is held annually every March, attracting rowers from all over the globe ready to tackle the four and a quarter mile course. New crews start in alphabetical order after all previous competitors have gone.

The race starts at 11am and the constant stream of rowers continues by along a particularly nice stretch of the Thames. The Surrey Bank above Chiswick Bridge is thought to be a good vantage point, as is the north end of Hammersmith Bridge. If you can\’t get to either of these points, however, any pub or cafe along the river will also be ideal, though if possible, you might want to book a table.
The route of the race is along one of the nicest stretches of the river so spending a day watching the race is an extremely pleasant activity for both visitors and residents alike.
