Every home and business office nowadays find it very important to have desktop computers. Even the smallest companies cannot do its ordinary processes without the use of these digital wonders. Homes, on the other hand, have found it necessary in aiding the kids’ homework and researches and in providing cheap and real-time communication.
Another electronic device that is gaining the same amount of importance is the server. In the era of the internet when connectivity among people has a paramount advantage, servers have become just as valuable as PCs. Aside from allowing access to a network of computers, it provides common storage for users, facilitating file sharing in the most convenient manner.
However, to get the most advantages in one’s computing jobs, having both is the most ideal. Having only a desktop PC means being limited in terms of accessibility. Most of these run only to several hundreds of gigabytes in storage space. This is definitely not enough for the heavy user; more so for network use.
Without a PC connected to it, a server is of practically of no use. It just stands a as a file storage that any user may access when there is a need to. It has to be running for 24 hours non-stop in order for the open files to be easily accesses from any computer in a network that it serves.
The combination of both servers and desktop computers provide the user with the best advantage. In fact, the internet has become possible with the connection of both equipments. The server is the means for common storage and for making access possible while the desktop PC is the tool for manipulating it and for opening the files.
Their different functions and capabilities are the reasons why they complement in terms of purposes. Having both is a wonderful advantage for the users. It allows them easy access on each other’s PCs and on the server’s file storage. The server, at the same time, can serve as remote back-up storage.
Acquiring the combination of both is not actually difficult. One can have the option of buying a server or building one from an old unused PC. Most computer retailers sell servers at the price of $300 to $600. If this seems costly, one can build these by converting desktop computers and upgrading its hardware.
You may also just get the service of online servers. These have websites and all you have to do is to pay it membership fee. It is actually a monthly rate. However, with that amount, you can already acquire file-sharing capabilities with other desktop computers online. The amount of data you can store is limited though. It is still advisable that you own an independent one instead.
Johnny Light has tried with computers and their parts for a decade. He has tried to enhance the function of desktop computers with servers in a system.
